Adventures in the Moon Mountains paradise - A 6-day hike in the Rwenzori Mountains

The Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the “Mountains of the Moon”, are one of the most spectacular and untouched mountain landscapes in Africa. Our 6-day trekking tour took us through lush rainforests, moss-covered moorlands and rugged rocky landscapes to the snow-capped peaks.

Day 1: The ascent begins

From the base station in Nyakalengija, we started our journey with a strenuous hike through dense tropical rainforest. The path was steep, but the sounds of birdsong and babbling brooks accompanied us. We reached the first camp in the evening and enjoyed a breathtaking view of the valley.

Day 2-3: Through mystical moorland landscapes

The landscape changed with every step. We crossed huge ferns, moss-covered trees and saw the famous giant lobelias, which are unique to the Rwenzori Mountains. Wisps of mist hovered over the moorlands, lending the surroundings a mysterious atmosphere.

Day 4-5: The challenge of the summit zone

The higher we climbed, the more challenging the terrain became. Slippery rocks and icy winds made the ascent a real challenge. But the sight of the glaciers near the equator was simply spectacular!

Day 6: The descent - a feeling of pride

The last day took us back down into the valley, and with every step I felt overwhelmed by what we had experienced. The untouched nature, the incredible panoramas and the silence of the mountains made this trip an unforgettable adventure.

The Rwenzori is a hidden gem for anyone looking for a real challenge. Those willing to take on the hardships will be rewarded with one of the most spectacular trekking experiences Africa has to offer.

An unforgettable adventure that you will tell your grandchildren about. Good starting point: Kasana Lake House. Simply enquire directly when booking.

1-7 day treks possible.
