A traditional feast that we would not have expected (translated)

We were made aware of the accommodation by friends who regularly visit Uganda. The accommodation is completely new and offers a brilliant range of activities and food compared to other accommodation in the area. What we particularly enjoyed was the traditional feast which was prepared on site in our kitchen and served on the terrace overlooking the crater lake. We, a group of friends who had booked the accommodation for a private retreat, were without exception thrilled that a very rustic traditional cuisine in Uganda could be so tasty. My friends didn't know that I had ordered this feast, so the surprise was all the better.
An explosion of flavors on the plate
We started with a few starters, which gave a great first impression of Ugandan cuisine. The “Luwombo” soup was particularly delicious - a thick peanut sauce with tender meat cooked in banana leaves. It was accompanied by mandazi, a kind of sweet pastry that went perfectly with the spicy dips.
Then came the main course - and it had it all! My favorite was “matoke” - soft-boiled plantains with an incredibly delicious peanut sauce. It was served with “posho”, a corn porridge that went perfectly with it. Nyama choma (grilled meat) and malewa (dried bamboo in peanut sauce) were also delicious and something completely different.
They were served with various vegetable dishes, for example “dodo” (a type of spinach) and “g-nut sauce” (a creamy peanut sauce). The combination of simple ingredients and exciting spices made the meal simply special.
A sweet finish and unforgettable moments
For dessert, we had “Kabalagala” - small pancakes made from plantains and drizzled with honey. Really delicious! This was served with freshly brewed chai, a spicy tea with ginger and cinnamon, which was perfect after the meal.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Brenda, Rayka and Leo once again for making the whole experience so incredibly special.
Thank you thank you thank you!
Best regards,
Tina and friends XOXO
